Craig Cohn
Founder and Lead Advisor
Craig Cohn is the founder and CEO of Summit Financial Partners, where he has been shaping the financial futures of his clients for over 23 years. Born in New York and raised in San Diego from a young age, Craig loves the San Diego lifestyle. He pursued both his undergraduate and graduate studies at San Diego State University, earning a degree in Finance followed by a Master’s in Financial Planning and Taxation (MSBA). Craig’s career in finance began after graduating from SDSU. His first role was with a non-profit organization, where he provided debt management services, helping clients develop repayment plans with creditors. This experience led him to a position in financial counseling at one of California’s largest credit unions, where he spent a decade assisting members with budgeting and navigating life-changing events. His work there laid the foundation for his deep understanding of personal finance, beyond just investing.
Seeing financial planning as a natural extension of his previous roles, Craig founded Summit Financial Partners to offer more comprehensive services. He relishes the opportunity to be part of his clients' life journeys, helping them achieve their dreams and providing support during challenging times. His approach to financial advice is straightforward and client-centered, focusing on realistic goal-setting and proactive management of financial challenges, rather than reactive measures to market or global events. Craig’s philosophy centers on the importance of minimizing losses during market downturns rather than striving to maximize every potential gain, advocating for a balanced and client-focused approach to financial planning.
Craig resides in the Carmel Mountain area of San Diego with his wife, Sandi, and near their son, Garrett, who graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2023. The family is completed by their two rescue dogs, the "terrifying" Cujo and "sweet girl" Laci. Outside of his professional life, Craig is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, biking, and cycling. His outdoor endeavors include a rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon in a single 23-mile, 13.5-hour trek for charity. Craig also enjoys collecting sports and non-sport trading cards, much to his wife’s chagrin.
